This is dedicated to Annika Pitts, the girl who can never keep her brace on -
Whenever a friend of mine injured their hand I always understood that it was painful and uncomfortable but I never really understood how inconvenient it was, until now.
Because my body hates me right now, my right hand decided that it wanted to get tendonitis or carpal tunnel or just something that makes it hurt a ton. So now, the week before finals, my hand is covered in KT tape and being rested, so I am down to not only using one hand, but my non-dominant one.
Now obviously they're the things that everyone thinks of being difficult when you only have one hand: eating, writing, tying your shoes, etc.. I know realize that there’s so many things you need two hands for. Ponytails, texting, typing, making your bed, brushing your teeth, opening the door when you have things to carry, showering, washing you hands, etc.
I have so much more empathy for anyone who has to live without the use of one of their hands, either temporarily or permanently. It is as if everything you do has to be slower and more methodical to get the same results of people who don’t even have to think about not using one hand.
Now I know that my hand will hopefully only be like this for a couple days, maybe a week, but I have a new perspective on my right hand. She is strong, reliable, and well trained. I miss her so much and need her back so that I can finish off my exams without having to write in chicken scratch.
Keep my hand in your hearts and thoughts.
