The Reality of Unexpectedly Moving Back Home

There is no place like home.

A week ago, all Florida State University students opened up their emails to discover they would not be returning for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester. For many of us, this did not come as a shock even though we were holding out hope that sometime in the next few weeks we would be returning.

Over the course of the last week, it has taken some adjusting to living at home again. For me, I have a family of six so after coming home from college it takes some serious adjusting to get used to my loud and chaotic family (It really didn't help that my grandparents just happened to be here for a visit during that time). So far adjusting back to home life hasn't been too hard. Right now, I find the hardest part to find the motivation to do my online classwork. We all might be stuck inside with nothing else to do but that doesn't make me want to do my online lectures even more. As we finish up our first week of online classes, I found that it has gotten easier as the week has progressed. I have begun to adjust to our new norm for the next few months.

For many of us, we are still left waiting — waiting to see what happens in the next few months in regards to graduation, move out and even next semester. We don't know what is going to happen but I do know that we won't take advantage of the little moments again. This spring, we attended our last in-person class for the semester without knowing it; Some might have even attended their last class ever. We went out with our friends one last time before break fulling thinking we would see them in two weeks. We thought we still had months left before we had to head home for the summer. Which is why we need to take advantage of every little moment we are given throughout the year because you never know what might happen.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
