I have been in a sorority for almost three years now. I have done everything from participating in recruitment to campaigning for our homecoming queen sister. The only thing I have not done is participate in intramural sports because sports are not my thing; therefore, I can't say anything about that.
But... recently, I have gotten the question on if it is worth it or not? Should I do it or not?
The answer is... I can't answer that for you.
If the values you carry yourself with match the one's of the house you were selected to be apart of, then yeah you'll enjoy it!
If you meet decent girls on bid day, there is a shot you'll have fun!
If you felt comfortable there during recruitment, I have faith.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what other people do. If you want to have that bond and learn more about the organization as a whole and pledge to uphold the expectations and legacy of that sorority, then It will be perfect for you. It is so much more than getting food on the weekdays or dressing crazy for social functions with other greek life. Its dedicating your time AND MONEY throughout your college years.
There are a ton of perks of being in greek life and people only think about the perks. There are also negative aspects that can affect you that you will learn about such as people perceiving you differently because you joined greek life, but it can also be vise versa.
Talking to girls already in greek life at your school is the best way to gauge on if you will be worth it to you or not. At the end of the day, why not just try it out? All you have to do is drop and you will no longer be apart of it. But at least you gave it a shot and stepped out of your comfort zone.
