Prior to each semester, we all dread buying textbooks.
At some point in our college journeys, we have all encountered that one professor who decides NOT to use the assigned textbooks. HA-HA.
I don't know about you, but this really bugs me.
So, to the professor who never used the textbooks, this rant is for you:
Okay, first of all, did you ever, even for a second, think that you were actually going to assign us work/ readings from your assigned textbooks?
Second of all, why in the name of all things that are good and holy did you assign textbooks that were $100-$200 EACH?
Third of all, you make all of my hard work on Amazon seem irrelevant. It takes tremendous skill to copy and paste the ISBN number, search for used or new books, decide whether I want to rent or buy, decide whether or not I want to sign up for the Amazon Prime service, find a seller that has a 96% or better review rate, choose the book, fill out shipping information, type in my card, and finally submit the order. This takes skill, and I am very offended that you obviously don't appreciate it.
Lastly, do you really think college students can fork our money for textbooks that are never going to be used? We have to eat, buy coffee, buy toilet paper, and pay for tuition. You were a college student once; heck, you have your doctorate, you were a college student for a LONG time. You should understand. If you knew you weren't going to use the textbook, THEN GOSH DARN IT DON'T PUT IT ON THE SYLLABUS!!!
Okay, rant over.
But seriosuly, why do professors do this??
