The holiday season has officially arrived and with it brings many reasons for celebration. We get to spend time with our family and friends, get a break from school to relax and get a chance to reflect on the things that are truly important in life. However, I think there are also many other reasons for celebration. One of the most amazing aspects of the holiday season is the ability it has to bring out the best in people.
During the holidays, people typically emphasize being generous and helping people in need. They will volunteer at shelters and donate money to those less fortunate in order for everyone to have a wonderful holiday season. No one should be in desire during the holidays, and many people will do what is necessary to ensure that this won’t happen.
But what gives people this change of perspective? Why do people suddenly feel the need to lend a helping hand? There are many reasons why people become more generous during the holidays. One of the more prominent reasons that spur this movement on is that people, in general, want to help produce a more positive holiday experience.
Many people believe that the way to make this dream a reality is by reaching out and giving. By giving of their means and helping others in need, it helps increase the positive and happy feelings and emotions that are associated with the holiday season. Maybe this is the reason people seem 10 times more joyful during the holiday season.
While it is incredible that the holidays can encourage this much generosity and kindness from people, why can’t this push for positivity last all year long? If people realize the constant need for help and donations, maybe the world would generally be a more positive place.
While I realize that this will not cure all of the problems we have in this world, maybe it will at least improve the experience for some people. If each of us focuses on curating a positive attitude within ourselves, we can help create a more positive atmosphere for all the people we encounter daily.
There are many benefits to trying to keep a positive attitude and a giving spirit. Not only does giving make others feel good, but it makes ourselves feel happy as well. It always feels good to do something nice for someone else. If you take time to give back to your community, you will often find yourself in a better mood for having done so. Kindness also tends to be contagious.
By doing one act of kindness a day, no matter how insignificant it might seem, can initiate so much change. You never know how much you can encourage and help someone by just doing one small thing to brighten their day.
It can also influence other people to want a make a difference. One of my good friend’s is always so generous to those in need. It never matters how much she has, she will always give what she can to those who are less fortunate than her. By watching her, I am daily encouraged to be a more generous person and help in any areas I can.
So, as this holiday season sets in, let’s remember to be kind and generous in any way we can. But, let’s also remember to keep the ball rolling. Don’t let the generosity end with the spirit of the season. Keep in mind the impact giving back and helping can have in a person’s life and use that influence to help create a positive environment around you.
