Over the past couple months, I have learned a very instrumental lesson about college. This lesson is about the importance of having "those people." With the phrase "those people," I am referring to the people in your life that will be there for you no matter what is going on. In my life, I have a few different people depending on the occasion, and because of this, I refer to all of them as "my people." How do "my people" differ from other people? It's simple: they are the ones that can truly make me laugh.
After just a few months of being at college, I have recently come to the conclusion that “my people” are my best friends that I have found that I can't wait to live the rest of my college life with. Some of these people are from my childhood, while others are from across the country. Together, we are all inseparable and unstoppable.
From long weekend nights taking part in festivities to even longer weeknights spending hours upon hours on homework, and from late night ice cream necessities to early morning mimosa dates, I forever know that I will never be left alone to face whatever challenge or event comes my way whether it be academically, personally, or socially. They will always have my back.
My best friends are my people. They inspire me to no end, treat me as if they have known me since birth, and help to guide me through these crazy years of college and beyond. They are my shoulder to cry on, my ones to hug, my constant support system that never shows any sign of judgment whatsoever and mostly importantly my personal joke book whenever I need one.
To my people, thank you for making me laugh when I am crying and for making me cry from laughing so hard. You have no idea how much each of you mean to me and I will forever be thankful for your lasting presence in my life.
From all of this, I have learned to find the ones that make me laugh and to never let them go. People can make you cry at the same time that they can make you smile. They can make you the happiest you have ever been while also making you furious at them. To be able to make a friend laugh is an important part of a relationship that deserves to be cherished. My people are the ones that can make me laugh to no end.
American poet E.E. Cummings once said, "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter."
I find this to be incredibly true. If you are able to find those people in your life that can make you laugh to no end, then you are one of the lucky ones. My people are the ones that make me laugh the most and I have no plans to let them go anytime soon.
