We’ve all been there, ladies. As the rise of social media has taken over our lives, our generation is stuck on the instant gratification trend…and that includes snapchats feature allowing you to SEE when someone’s opened your content. We have a love/hate relationship with that little pink arrow on the side of our screens; we love to know the boy we’re crushing on has seen what we sent…that is…until he Opens But Not Replies.

The OBNR is probably the most frustrating current ‘trend’ that is sweeping the nation. At least in the time of letters girls could sit around staring out of the window, dreaming of the long, heartfelt letter their significant other could be writing (even if it never came). The OBNR does not give us that liberty. WE have to open up snapchat to look at that ugly little arrow with the words ‘opened 30 minutes ago’ under it. Are you kidding?!

Literally no sane teenager is away from their phone for more than however long your longest nap is. That means that clearly, you’re checking your snapchat. Scientists have literally found that people of the 21^st century check their phones over 150 times a day, which means that boys can DEFINITIELY spare the 2 seconds it takes to send a fu**king half-faced selfie back.

But here’s my advice, girls. DO NOT double snap. I know, I know, it’s so tempting to passive aggressively send a picture of your shoes or the sky just to be like ‘HELLOOOO. I’m here!!!!!’ but, ask yourself, who is this helping? Probably Chad, to be honest. Chad is most likely scrolling through Barstool’s Instagram page laughing at the notification of your double snap. DO NOT give Chad what he wants. Abstain.

At the end of the day, you probably will double snap. Most girls will, because we struggle with will power and probably like attention just a little more than we’d like to admit. But honestly, babe, I don’t blame you. The OBNR is not cool. And you know what’s even LESS cool??! The social standard that double snaps are ‘psycho.’ I’m not telling you not to double snap because you’ll look crazy, like who cares? I’m telling you not to double snap because it’s time we take back our independence and stop letting the Chads of the world ruin our day with an OBNR.

Your selfie was bomb...his loss. Now go enjoy your day and drop that boy right out of your life (and hopefully find one that replies to you next time).
