The New Year Holiday...It's A No From Me

Your new year, fresh start doesn’t have to start on January 1st, it can start when you want, or need it too.

New Years- one of my least favorite holidays. For starters, the entire resolutions idea doesn’t sit well with me. Most people make the same resolutions every year- exercise more and to eat healthier. But do any of us last? Usually no but I know there are people who stick to their guns and achieve their resolutions- and for those who do, here’s a virtual high-five from me to you.

But, I feel as if so many of us make such big, long-termed resolutions that we fail to see the outcome. If you’re someone who makes resolutions every new year, don’t. Resolutions are described as “decisions on to do something or not”. Forget resolutions, set those goals.

Why goals though?

Goals are more likely to motivate you since goals are ambitious. And don’t start off by “going big or going home”, start off small. Progress is slow and can be frustrating when starting off small but you are much more likely to want to achieve by setting small goals instead of small/big resolutions that you might end up falling through with.

As you can tell, I find the entire New Year’s holiday to be a big nay.

And it’s not just because of the entire resolution idea. Society as a whole focuses so much attention on the entire new year fresh start thing that we tend to forget that any day can be a fresh start, heck, even a fresh year. Your new year, fresh start doesn’t have to start on January 1st, it can start when you want, or need it too.

And the entire build-up to the new year is so anti-climatic in my opinion. You spend hours preparing for New Year's Eve parties, events, etc. to watch a countdown to just another day with a different number at the end of the year.

Also, nothing really changes when the clock strikes midnight. You stop whatever is you're doing to countdown and cheer to ring in the year, or kiss whomever and just carry on what you were doing before. And, the entire kissing thing at midnight on New Year's? I'd rather continue on eating my pizza and drinking them stop for a smooch. Also, who even came up with that idea?

Also, why stand out in the freezing weather or get all dressed up to be standing somewhere all night only to countdown? I’ll just stay in my pajamas, in the coziness of my house and watch movies to celebrate another new day.Whether you hate or love new years, here's to (hopefully) a better and thriving 2018.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
