How does one describe the potential of a new band that has not been described before? Let's start with the instant reaction of people everywhere to the band the Nashville grown indie-pop band The American Vogue. They were featured on .alternative's Youtube playlist, people have commented on their page saying, for example, "I dying here. Your fans are so looking forward to whats in the works" and was featured as one Rock Current's best songs of the week in February.
The American Vogue sets their foundation with concrete as they start to play more shows and put the finishing touches on their upcoming EP, but the heart of the band comes from their story.
Members Brandon Mingo and Andy Giallombardo started their music careers as hip-hop producers. This was meant to turn into something else after the two met. They started playing guitar with one another on their down time.
Both Brandon and Andy felt a connection, and wanted to grow whatever was brewing at the time into a band. They added Austin McBride as a bass player to jam with them. All three of the guys loved the creativity and potential every time they worked on a piece together.
Brandon and Andy started writing songs together. Their latest hit song "I Don't Care About The Lights" took their band to the next level, but not without adding the very talented drummer Philip DeLuca first. More songs have been produced since, but a lot of time is being spent into their upcoming EP.
One song that captured my attention was "SHE//DRAIN" which captures Brandon's vocal ability perfectly with multiple pitch switches in the chorus. Not only does this produce a cool flow within the song, but it shows the capability of Brandon's vocals.
Their talent is not without personality. Brandon mentioned to me how much the band connected right off the bat. Austin furthered by talking about the diversity in perspective, music tastes, and great communication skills.
Just in case you are not sold on the character of the band, the name of the band was not after the magazine. The name comes from a band secret that only will be discussed if you ask them at one of their shows.
In conclusion, The American Vogue captures every part that an indie-pop band should be with more character than most. The heart and passion of the band should be enough to captivate you in their music, but turn on one of their songs to hear for yourself.
