The Nashville Knack

Five years, 1826 days, or 43829 hours have been put into the band Skytown Riot. After all of the time, effort, sweat, and frayed nerves, 2017 is the year Skytown Riot leaves their mark in history.

2012 was the year Van Gallik took to the streets to form his notable rock band in Knoxville, Tennessee. Van had always had a strong passion for music, which pairs well with his impenetrable ability to write, sing, and play a kickass solo on his guitar.

There was no easy pathway for the band to follow. The original band members did not all share a bond with one another, especially when faced with stress on the road. That did hinder with later progress with the sensational sound that came from hit songs like "Sensational" in 2013 in their first album Soul or System.

The band did not catch on as quickly as they anticipated. Van recalls that the ladder to the top seems to be infinite, but his climb upwards has been filled with many achievements.

Van stated in a previous interview, "In college, I studied architecture, then advertising. I've worked in music shops, built tennis courts, sold telecom services, been a server, started my own moving business." This was apart of the incredible story of where the band has led to today.

Band members Jason Fruchey (bass player/backing vocals) and Sebastian Dunkel (Drummer) have put in their dues day in and out. Before Van moved to Nashville, Jason and Sebastian would drive to Knoxville to rehearse. The selflessness of every member had contributed to one tightly knit band.

In 2017 Skytown Riot released their latest album Alive in the Fire which captured the full capability of the band with unforgettable songs like "Breaking Silence" and "Devil's Masquerade", which has a slight hint of "Psycho" by Puddle Of Mudd.

With a few big tours under their belts, an opportunity had opened for Skytown Riot to play in the 2017 Vans Warped Tour. They have uploaded a list of their music videos to compete for a spot (Click here to support the band). The top 41 bands will play, and Skytown Riot is on their way.

In conclusion, Skytown Riot brings more than their music to the table. They bring a story of humble beginnings, hours upon hours of traveling, years of practice and fine tuning, and an unforgettable presence.

Connect with the band on Facebook, Spotify, iTunes, and other social media platforms! Remember, the essence of creativity begins with a dream. Skytown Riot is achieving their dream.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
