Some might say that the band *repeat repeat is a combination between coastal rock with a modern movement of alternative, but what lured me into the band's story was how they came from an idea to a full fledged band playing all across the nation. One of two lead singers and guitarist Jared Corder was born in northern California. At the age of 3, Jared moved to Phoenix, Arizona. For Jared, Phoenix was not too exciting for musicians in it's consumer based city. Jared broke free at the age of 21 after he graduated Arizona State University in 2009.
The second lead singer and wife to Jared, Kristyn, was raised by a Texan family, but she was a Long Beach girl by heart. A sign of this was her obsession with her dad's beach Pop/Rock collection from the 1960s. The result of her obsession led to her moving to Santa Barbra for college at the University of California- Santa Barbra for two years.
Jared and Kristyn both moved to Nashville two years apart after their ventures in college. Kristyn came in 2007 to work in a PR firm and Jared came in 2009 to play music. In 2011, they both met each other at Nashville's infamous 12th & Porter, which changed the pathways for both of them. Jared's band, at the time, was playing a show at the venue dressed as if they were from the 80s movie Risky Business.
After the show Jared asked boldly in his whitey tighty underwear if he could take Kristyn to coffee. Eight months later the two were married, but the importance of Jared and Kristyn getting married was their involvement in a newly formed band. During the beginning of the newly formed band, *repeat repeat, Jared was the lead sing/ guitarist, and Andy Herrin played drums, but the idea of adding a female vocalist was emphasized as a great idea. Jared helped host tryouts for the position, but none of the girls seemed to match what was needed.
Kristyn sat in a session with Jared and Andy after the tryouts, and began to sing. It was at this moment a chemical reaction occurred. The band's producer suggested that Kristyn be the female vocalist. Without hesitation, she was added to the band.
From 2011-2012 the band worked on their image, music, and marketing to make their release as fluid and professional as possible. Once the band was official, opportunities flooded in from Music City Mayhem, hosted by Lighting 100, and to playing venues across the nation. During their free time, Jared and Kristen started an underground music festival in their basement. They named it the East Nashville Underground.
The music festival was not pivotal to their success as a band. Their friend, Tyler, at UTA helped book *repeat repeat at their first festival titled "Rhythm & Blues" in Knoxville, which brought more opportunities along as time passed. Their success led to Red Light Management reaching out to the band to offer a helping hand. One of Red Light's best managers, Maxx Cua, was introduced to the band.
Maxx has been a shining light for the band bringing attention to their phenomenal music, but with all of this success came difficulty. Jared and Kristyn both emphasized the lack of sleep, poor nutrition, and overall health wore them down while they were on the road, yet they continued to play for hours at a time off of four hours a sleep each night. Any time off of tour for Jared and Kristyn are spent with their five cats, three dogs, parrot, and horse in East Nashville.
*repeat repeat, in my opinion, combines the love of Sonny and Cher, a mind-blowing drummer, and rock your socks off music that will be played on Sept. 1st at Lighting 100's Live On The Green. Be there or be square.
