Calmness endows the nature of Bear's Den's music. Every note is carefully played, each lyric is strategically placed, and the final result is a piece of art unlike any other. Andrew Davie and Kev Jones have a stage presence that is insurmountable by mosts bands in alternative folk music today.
When Bear's Den played in Nashville, Tennessee at the infamous 3rd and Lindsley, their set up brought about pure excitement with people closing in inch by inch to get close to the stage. The anticipation in the room after hearing the opening act, Gill Landry, grew as the time for the main act drew in closer. Before Bear's Den walked out, the floor filled with an excited audience of all different ages. There was certainly no wiggle room once the show was about to begin.
The show began with a bang. The energy in the room was electric, as the wait was finally over. Bear's Den began their set playing "Red Earth & Pouring Rain." The song was an instant hit with the crowd cheering in a roar of enlivenment.
As the concert went on not a single soul in the room moving from their spot, but instead was lost in every song. The ability for a band to do this takes an immense amount of talent, which is some Bear's Den has.
The song that captured my mind in its fullest was the song "Roses on a Breeze." The slow melody of the song matched with Andrew Davie's buttery smooth voice drew me into every note.
Of course this would not be a Bear's Den show without their most popular songs "Above the Clouds of Pompeii" and "Agape." Both songs were nominated for awards in 2015 and 2016.
These songs captured the full essence of Bear's Den with its powerful, masterful lyrics, head bobbing sounds, and catchy melodies. Everyone in the audience sang every word to these songs. It was certainly magical to witness the unification of the vast amount of people singing along.
It was the magnetic presence that was unavoidable to everyone in the room that made the show as amazing as it was.
