Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Twitch, Youtube
These are all platforms that the modern generation has become engrossed by.
More retweets. More likes. More followers. More subscribers. More views.
These are things that a lot of people have become obsessed with nowadays, and to no surprise.
You have figures such as Pewdiepie with 109 million subscribers and the Paul Brothers, Jake and Logan Paul making millions of dollars and popularity from wild antics.
This bar has acted both as a symbol for motivation and a symbol for stress and detriment.
Many young people feel as if they need to reach these heights to gain some form of acceptance or value. A lot of people grade their importance on how many likes they get and how popular they are on social media. What a lot of aspiring influencers and social media stars fail to realize is that a lot of this attention and popularity is artificial. Oftentimes, followers only really care about who you are at the surface level. They usually care little for who you are at your core, your good, and your bad qualities.
This helps to segway into the next point, the stress and expectations successful influencers and stars put on themselves. Often influencers feel the need or the expectation that they need to maintain a constant presence and dedicate their whole being to their platform and their followers/subscribers. However, this is not the case.
The best example that many influencers should follow in all honesty is the Youtuber, CoryxKenshin. He is primarily a gaming Youtuber, who focuses on playing the latest games and reactions. He is consistent for the most part but there are periods where he will take breaks from Youtube and social media. There was a time when he was gone for several months.
On the surface level, this would be detrimental to any Youtuber. However, CoryxKenshin only continued to grow his channel further, even in his extended absence. Cory has stated that he uses that time away from Youtube to spend time with his friends and family and to just put time aside for his mental health.
This is something that more people need to learn. There is nothing wrong with putting more emphasis on their social life or mental health. Social Media and Youtube are not everything.
