There have been tons of influential authors throughout the years and there are so many more to come. But what drew them to writing? Why writing? I have yet to find a better way to express myself and I doubt I will ever stumble across something that can compare. Your own words can influence someone. You can create characters and tell stories that could possibly change the way a person thinks. That’s what draws me to writing.
I have a good feeling that many other writers feel the same exact way. I write because I feel the power behind my words and my thoughts are turned into something other than just in my head. Like tons of other people, I have never been one to showcase my emotions. It’s who I am and who I’ll always be. Writing is a way for me to really think about how I am feeling and make something cool out of it. Some people play sports, others make art, I write.
The first people to ever create a written language were the Sumerians in 3500 B.C. Years upon years have passed and now life is completely different than the one back in ancient history but one of the few things that have lasted from their world to ours is written language. Writing has changed quite a bit since then but obviously, it is important enough that people have kept it around. Not only is it useful for communicating with others, but it gives people a chance to express themselves in a way they had never been able to before. Having the chance to put your own thoughts into something concrete has influenced people who are a part of history today.
Writing is a relic from the past but still somehow manages to carve itself in the foundation of the future. Not only is it how we record history, but it’s also is a timeless way to express who you are and how you feel. So many stories have been preserved through writing that can relate to your life today even if the original story was fifty years ago. I mean there are some fictional characters that will relate to you better than any other human might.
Simple black and white words on a page can bring laughter, heartache, and tears, and trust me I’ve experienced all of them. I can’t tell you how many times I've cried over a book or gotten to the last page and wished it kept going, wished I got to stay with the characters for a little bit longer. Stuff like that is just so cool to me. Not only do you connect to a character but you are also connecting to the author who created them in the first place. Some people’s best friends are between the bindings of a book. I think all book lovers have a list of characters that they would bring to life if they could. If you read the right story, it can feel like you are there yourself, watching everything that’s happening like you're a bystander in it all. You can connect with people you have never met and will never meet. There’s a magic behind reading and writing that’s beyond words but once you experience it, there’s no forgetting it.
