There was a girl
A lovely girl
Christmas was her
Entire world
She wrote the cards
She wrapped the gifts
But mom and dad
Had none of it
Festive music
It filled her ears
She had waited
For this all year
Her dad would frown
Her mom would too
Their lack of cheer
Made the girl blue
She told herself
She’d make them learn
That Christmas was
What she had yearned
She played some tunes
With joyful glee
And put the gifts
Under the tree
She baked cookies
Icing on top
When mother came
She told her to stop
Christmas is moot
It matters not
Her mother said
The girl’s face hot
Enough said the girl
Inside her head
Her being lost
All sense of dread
I will have cheer
It will be mine
I don’t need them
All will be fine
Mother can frown
And Dad can sigh
I will not pout
I will not cry
I’ll hang the lights
I’ll sing the songs
One day they’ll see
That they were wrong
