Recently, there seems to be a significant problem in the realm of politics when it comes to transparency of certain issues to the American public. The biggest problem lies in the state of the current Democratic and Republican parties and to who they truly represent versus the promises they make and their own individual actions.
The Democratic Party of today's age is lead by a very controversial leader. Tom Perez is seen as a leader with a very fixed rationale in terms of leading the party. His agenda seems to focus less on innovation and the spread of new and fulfilling ideas for Democrats in the wake of the failures and hiccups of the Republican administration but more so on safe and defensive policy maneuvers. As a result, many Democrats are protesting against Perez's leadership because they feel underrepresented by his safe policies and constrained goals. One such demographic that has felt the negligence of his mindset is Black Women, a significant demographic that has proven key to any major election and creates a sizable voting bloc. As the Democratic leadership shifts away from policy innovation and significant ideology and remains on a fixated path, more members of the Democratic party will see their own values misrepresented and as such may choose to separate.
The Republican Party has also suffered significantly in recent years. Even before the election of Donald Trump, the Republican party has chosen to focus on a set of dogmatic policies rather than a guiding ideology. Conservatism in the United States is more reflected in the minds of people like Rand Paul and the late Milton Friedman. The conservative argument is definitely important and helps keep a significant check on the powers of the federal government while trying to help economic growth to fit the various needs of different sectors. However, current Republicans choose to focus on issues of abortion, gay rights and the criminalization of marijuana. Congressional Republicans today are more likely to be hostile towards immigrant communities and families and employ stringent use of government regulation over these key areas.
True conservatism would be to leave these issues up to the states as to whether they should be legal or not as opposed to openly opposing any one significant policy area. In addition the Republican party is governed by Christianity and religious ideology and while no religious ideology is less important than the other one, the Republican and conservative ideology was based more on economic principles than any faith-based orientation. In true conservatism, the issue of abortion would be solved on a state by state basis as to which state would allow abortion and to what degree it should be regulated. Gay rights would not have been an issue under true ideological conservatism simply because conservative ideology promotes freedom of all to pursue heir own lives while protecting specific liberties. Under true conservatism, marijuana would not be criminalized for the same reasons mentioned above. In addition, it was originally conservative ideology that showed the dangers that black markets have on an economy whenever a substance or product is criminalized and as such should be regulated.
As a result of these significant party issues, many Republicans are also feeling underrepresented, however an even larger problem exists in that the party is shifting away from conservatism, yet is still advertising to its constituents that the party is still conservative. This has proven to be very dangerous as an entire party base will have their ideologies shifted without even realizing and may become much more radical and extreme.
All in all there are significant problems both parties are facing right now in the current era of politics. As a result we may see the first instances of major separations from these parties by key voting blocs to form their own third or maybe even fourth parties.
