The small things are the things that matter the most

You know when you have one of those days when absolutely everything went wrong. One of those days when the world seems set up against you, and all you can do is stand there and take it. Let's start celebrating the small victories. The little things that we should be proud of. The little things that we should pat ourselves on the back over. Not every day is going to end in sparks, not every day is going to end in the "best day ever," but every day has something good about it. Break out the champagne and the cookies, I bet you've something on this list, and because of this, you deserve a little bubbly and a lot of smiles.

1. You got out of bed this morning.

2. Or maybe you stayed in bed all day, that's pretty cool too

3. You smiled at a stranger and possibly made their bad day a little better

4. You held the door open for someone behind you

5. You took an extra long shower and it felt amazing

6. You lit a candle and waited for the smell to hit your nose

7. The sun was shinning through your window when you woke up

8. Or the rain made the appeal of staying in bed uncanny

9. You saw children running, jumping, and playing without a care in the world and it warmed your heart

10. You baked yourself a cake because you deserved it

11. You listened to a song that just made you feel alive

12. You stopped for a second and just took a really deep breath

13. You took a much needed nap

14. You went and got that unhealthy food that you've been craving for 4 months

15. You made someone else's day without even knowing it

16. You drank some heavenly coffee

17. You held the elevator for someone

18. You got in a bed with some clean fresh sheets

19. You tried a new movie, friend, or book

20. You went back to an old movie, friend, or book

21. You lit a candle that took you back

22. You said what you finally needed to say to someone (nice or mean)

23. A great idea came to you in the shower

24. You took sometime for yourself

25. You survived the day

26. And you should be damn happy with yourself because of it

Not everyday is going to be your best and not everyday is going to be the worst, but someone just had the best day of their lives. Maybe it wasn't you today, but that's ok. It all works in turn. Pop the bubbly, sit down, and pat yourself on the back. You deserve it after the day you just had.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
