On April 7th easily the Biggest UFC event of the year will be going down as Tony Ferguson Faces Khabib Nurmagomedov in the Main event for the Lightweight Championship This fight alone is going to shape the Lightweight Division this year after it takes take place, also there are already potential future fight plans in the crosshairs of whoever takes the gold in each fight.
While Ferguson Vs Khabib was supposed to happen 3 different times already, it is finally happening on April 7th. Both of these top Lightweight Contenders have been itching to get at one another for some time now but due to injuries and multiple reschedulings, it never took place. With both Tony and Khabib both sitting at the top of the Division, Tony being #1 and Khabib being #2, they both look to prove how dominant they are within the division.
After Tony Ferguson defeated now #7 ranked Kevin Lee with a Triangle Choke for the Interim-Lightweight Title at UFC 216, he not only became the Interim-Title holder but also improved his winning streak to 10, and without question has shown us why he deserves to be the Champion. He continues to campaign to the world how he is the real champ and will be the first one to dismantle the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov, we will just have to be patient as fans and wait and find out if Tony really is the antidote to "The Eagle".
With Khabib putting a brutal beating on top contender #4 ranked Edson Barbosa at UFC 219 earning him the Unanimous Decision Victory and the Performance of the Night award. He also showed why he deserves to be the Lightweight Champion. Khabib also improved to an incredible 25-0 in his Mix Martial Arts Career with no plans of losing anytime soon.
Khabib continues to make it a point that Tony has nothing for him and he is going to smash him and take the belt. Khabib looked better than ever in that last fight with Edson, but the question is will Khabib be able to hold down the very slick "El Cuyuy" Tony Ferguson. Khabib truly feels he is the real champion, he is even having his fun as of late poking fun at Conor Mcgregor and his recent partnership with Burger King.
Many still do not really know what is going on with Lightweight Champion (Or Former Lightweight Champion when the Tony Vs Khabib Starts according to Dana) Conor Mcgregor, It seems as if Conor has redirected his tweets and post towards Max Holloway and others in the Featherweight Division as of recent. It is speculated though that he will be the one to get a shot at the belt after the new champ is crowned.
