The Issue With A Refugee Team

As the Olympic Games begin, we are faced with the fact that this is the first time in History that a team of people forced to flee from their homes will be competing. This brave and inspirational team of refuges is something truly amazing to see, but honestly, I hope it will be the last time a team like this ever compete. Wait, hear me out before you judge. This isn’t some racist rant on why they shouldn’t compete but rather the opposite. The issue with having a team made of refuges, is that it’s made up of refuges. These people don’t have a team to be a part of because conflict forced them to leave everything they had ever known. The fact that there is a team made up of refuges is a slap in the face because it forces us to admit that there is unimaginable conflicts occurring in the world. Right now as you read these words it's happening. These people, these amazing athletes who build up this team are stronger than most of us can wish to be. They have had more heartache and suffering in their short lives then many of us will experience in a lifetime. If the fact that they no longer have a country to call their own and compete for does not upset you, then you are part of the problem. Anyone can become a refugee if the circumstances permit. This isn't some rare thing caused by negligence. Good, smart, and hardworking people are the one fleeing the violence. This Olympic team is proof of it. Although history is being made with a refugee team competing in the Olympics, I hope that in four years’ time we will not have need of such a team, and that the people competing in it this time around will once more be able to go home, and have a nation whose flag they can wear with pride. This article is dedicated to the ten brave refugees competing in Rio, I wish you all the best of luck in the games, and it life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
