“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” - Martin Luther King Jr
The past couple of days our Facebook feed has been bombarded by videos of what is happening in Aleppo, and the inhumane human rights violations. But the truth is, Syrian's have had their human rights infringed since 2011; It is finally being brought as "BREAKING NEWS".
One particular video that broke my heart was a father saying "I lost everything, you are my life" to his son who, in the video, was buried under rubble. Aleppo has shown me that inhumanity may be happening around the world, but until it is breaking news on CNN or being projected on Facebook, we will not empathize or know about it.
In 2011, when Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, replaced his father, Hafez al-Assad, Syrians were hopeful and relieved that their authoritarian regime would be overturned to a democratic government. Assad began by removing political prisoners out of prisoners. Many times Syrians felt optimistic for the little changes al-Assad began to do. Until gradually, he started placing people into prisons and bombing parts of Syria where opposition lived. The UN weapons inspectors concluded in October of 2013, that the Assad regime, in fact, had used chemical weapons on his people. The United States did nothing, but in 2001 we attacked Afghanistan for the same reason. But these cruel and inhumane circumstances have been happening for almost six years now and we have turned our backs to them — children dead under rubble, mothers burying yet another of their sons and daughters and we were unsighted to what they were living.
Russia has sided with the Syrian government, being responsible for the numerous airstrikes happening in Aleppo. Russia's justification has been that they are fighting ISIS, but many are suspicious they are out to bomb Syrian rebels.
Syria has not always been this way, just like Kabul, Afghanistan was not a war zone.
This was Aleppo years back and now it is just a battle zone.

There are numerous foundations that have been helping in Aleppo and other parts of Syria. These are some organizations you can donate too for their vigorous labor. And also pray for these families that go to bed not knowing if tomorrow is their last day.
