If you haven't caught onto the trend of Fox's TV show "New Girl," you should probably do so soon. Like, open up Netflix after reading this article soon.
We have an array of characters that almost anyone could fall in love with. We have the jokester Winston, we have the gorgeous best friend CeeCee, we have the business-savvy man with the good looks named Schmidt, we have the law school drop out Nick, and then we have the elementary school teacher named Jess.
Jess is someone that most women between the ages of 19 to 26 have a pretty easy time connecting to. She is shy, she awkward as can be, she's ambitious, but most importantly she is still finding herself. Throughout the entire show, you see her go through many struggles that we all tend to go through at this age.
Like dating, working out enough, and the simple fights with friends here and there. However, the one thing that I think we all can relate to the most is her dating struggles. (Except in one episode. SPOILER ALERT: She dates her 3rd cousin.)
At the age of 26, most of us will have our bachelor's degrees we will have met the man of our dreams and gotten engaged, then there is the rest of us that are worried we are still going to be struggling on our way to find love and that happy ever after.
The thing is society constantly tells us what we should and shouldn't be doing at that point in our lives. However, Jess throws all caution to the wind and lets herself figure it out as she goes. Something that we could all use a little bit more of in our regimented lives.
Also, people like to tell us who we can and can't be with. So what she falls in love with one of her best friends throughout the entire series? Don't we all have those little romances we've chased here and there with close friends?
Here's to the Jess like girls of the world. May we know them, may we love them, and may we accept them and any of the strange drinking habits they might have. (I'm looking at you, True American.)
