In your lifetime you'll probably have quite a few friends. There will be the ones that come and go, sent to you for a reason, casual pals, and so many more. But the most important friends are the ones you make and stay by your side when you did not even know you needed them.
Sometimes life gets crazy, and it takes all kinds of twists and turns. You get wrapped up in yourself, your school work, and your extra activities. You forget to reach out because you're kind of drowning, but keep saying, "I'll get to it eventually." And as eventually never comes. it doesn't matter. Because while you're in the middle of acting like a hot mess, your friend texts you and says, "Hey, haven't seen you in a while. Wanna grab dinner?" And all of a sudden your worries melt away, at least for an hour, as you sit and chat and catch up. Just because you forgot about your friends, does not mean they forgot about you. And that's why friends are important.
Then you just have this really bad day. Just out of nowhere. Your week was going average, no major exams or assignment. But you start feeling down and just need a good cry. But this is the worst when you're alone. So what do you do? Call up your number ones, pick up some ice cream together and sit around, sad until life feels good again. And that's why friends are important.
But then sometimes you're having a really great day. The kind where everything falls in line. You got an A on your exam, made it on the bus right before it left, and just heard you got an interview. Now, you don't want to sound braggy, even though you totally want to brag. So you can't just tell anyone. So you call that person for you, and they start hyping you up even more, and despite their own terrible day. Because they know they can be happy for you even if things aren't going well for themselves. And that's why friends are important.
And of course, with college comes struggling with classes —the kind of struggling that entails you sitting at a screen for hours upon hours without really knowing what's going on. And you're scared to get help because you're 100 percent sure the problem here is that you are stupid. But you pick up the phone and explain to your friend who aced the class what's going on. And she really doesn't judge you at all. Just helps you with a smile on her face. And that's why friends are important.
There are so many moments in our lives that we just need to share something, feel something, or do something with another person. And that is why friends are important. They're there for you and ready to share all of these moments with you with an open heart.
