"Go to college," they said... "it'll be fun," they said. Well, they were right... but, they were also wrong. Welcome to The Hunger Games -- aka, the battle of college students fighting to get into Med/Vet/Grad School.

We scavenge for food and wake up from nightmares caused by classes.

We nap in any environment (the Arena), and trust professors (President Snow) ever so slightly.

In some ways it seems as if The Hunger Games was actually mocking college students -- and here are 31 examples.

1. When you first get to campus and try to make friends.

2. When a cute guy walks into class.

*Quickly turns head to avoid being caught staring and making awkward eye contact*

3. When you have five minutes to get across campus before being late for lab, but you're determined to make it.

4. Secretly hoping a university bus/car hits you crossing the street.

Two words: "Free tuition."

5. "Free Food."

Nothing in college sounds better than the words "free" and "food" together -- well, except for "extra credit."

6. Midterms

7. When you think you aced an assignment, but you get it back and you actually failed.

8. When your friends are there for you in the midst of a breakdown.

9. Emailing your professor asking for extra credit.

*Crosses fingers and hits send*

10. When you're sick but your friends still want to go out.

11. Trying to figure out who keeps getting 110% on exams and setting the curve.

12. Those know-it-alls in class who always make sure to express that they're smarter than everyone else.

13. When you get to the library only to realize your laptop is about dead and you forgot your charger.

14. When your friends ask about the cute guy in your class you always talk about.

"Oh, you think I should make a move? That's hilarious -- I have a better shot at getting a 4.0."

15. Finding food from who knows when.

16. When your professor blesses you with extra credit.

17. When you leave your last class on Friday and the weekend starts.

18. When you've procrastinated until it's no longer an option, due dates are closing in on you, and the hours are slipping out from between your fingers.

19. Trying to decide whether you should give up sleep or your social life.

20. When you catch guys checking your friends out.

Me: "Don't be obvious..."

Them: *Turns around very obviously*

21. Looking at everything you need to do and asking yourself if you're going to get it all done... Nope.

22. Group projects.

23. Finals week.

One goal: Survival.

24. When you see "happy" people who look like they've gotten a full night's sleep during finals week.

But, how??

25. When your professor says "Good Luck" before your final.

26. When you open your exam.

27. When your friends are going home but you still have another final.

28. When someone asks how finals week went.

29. When you leave campus for break.

30. When the curve is applied to your grade.

31. Waiting for final grades to be posted.

And there you have it, 31 times The Hunger Games was actually just a movie mocking us poor, tired college kids trying to survive yet another semester.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
