Shane Dawson is blowing his subscribers away with yet another high stakes documentary series. Seriously, if you haven't checked it out yet, it's worth the watch time.
Back in June of 2018, Shane began making these longer documentary series when he premiered his series on Tanacon. He then moved on to make his first series with Jeffree Star, and one about Jake Paul. After his series with Jake Paul, Shane announced he wanted to take a long break from making videos.
In January of 2019, Shane teased fans with a two-part conspiracy series and a promise that he was working on something big. Later in July, Shane also came out with a video with Eugenia Cooney.
On September 24th, 2019, Shane Dawson released his trailer for "The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star" to officially break his hiatus. The series currently has three parts; all of which kept me on the edge of my seat. If you remember back to Shane's first series with Jeffree Star, the two joked about working on a makeup line and merchandise store together. In the time that Shane has been absent from YouTube, this is exactly what they did.
From the moment Shane and Jeffree mentioned a makeup line in the first series, I started to get excited. Needless to say, I wasn't too shocked to discover this was what he'd been working on after being gone for so long. The internet seemed to eat it up as well after Shane's reveal. All three videos already have millions of views and hundreds of thousands of comments.
On October 15th, 2019, Shane's merchandise store with Jeffree was launched. I'd like to say I went online myself and bought a few pieces, but I'm even prouder to say I was unable to because the entire store sold out in less than 24 hours.
Shane went to his Instagram story to express his gratitude, saying, "I've never sold out of anything before in my entire life. Thank you guys for being so supportive today." He also made sure to thank and show a little love to Jeffree Star.
As someone who has been following Shane for years now, this is all very interesting to see. Shane has always been among the humbler YouTubers. For him and Jeffree to reveal the way businesses in that field take advantage of young talent is huge, especially when they're also putting numbers behind it.
While the beauty community may not be happy about some of the things being said in this docu-series, I believe it's important for someone to finally inform fans and consumers of the shadiness. It's also amazing to see the process of not only producing makeup but of someone's hard work finally paying off after so long.
While Shane may have some self-doubt, as any of us would in this situation, I believe this series and makeup line are going to be a pivotal moment in both his life and career. I don't say this just because he talked numbers in the series, but because he's done nothing but show he has put his heart and soul into this project.
The success of his merchandise store alone is enough proof that this may be one of the smartest business decisions he's made thus far.
Personally, I'm excited to see where the rest of this series will take us, and I can't wait for the launch of Shane's makeup line. The beauty community doesn't know what's about to hit them.
