As the last year was closing up, 20th Century Fox released their newest musical: "The Greatest Showman". Starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zac Efron, and many more! In Europe, the release date was a bit later, so finally, on January 8th, I went to see "The Greatest Showman" at the cinemas! And it didn't disappoint.
The critics haven't been raving about the movie, but just as in the story, the public is. P.T. Barnum was the founder of one of the world's greatest circuses and later he paired up with Ringling Bros! Unfortunately, the circus closed their doors for the final time this year, but that doesn't stop us from enjoying the magic of the circus through this film.
The movie starts with an incredible opening and it makes sure you're immediately on the edge of your seat. I am a sucker for musicals in the first place, so that's one advantage, but apart from that is was just amazing. Ofcourse, there are many songs in it, eleven to be exact. But what do you expect from a musical? That's what makes it so amazing!
The characters were well developed, and the scenery was amazing. Costumes were great, so was the pacing. I enjoyed every minute of it. There were two major story arcs, the story of P.T. Barnum and the minor love story between two characters.
There were other stories that could have been further developed, but that would have been too much. So I am content with the choices they made. Of course, there were more story arcs then the two I mentioned, but they weren't major ones.
The songs were the best thing! I enjoyed every single one of them. The lyrics were good, the rhythm was good. The songs were all different but gave you the same feeling, so it fit perfectly with the atmosphere of the movie.
Overall, ignore the critics, just as P.T. Barnum did! This movie is worth a watch and will maybe even make it to your list of favorites!
