Have you ever thought about what you can reward yourself with? You had a rough week or you completed a huge project for school or work and decide that you deserve something nice.
We all do it.
You think about all of the things that could bring you the greatest joy and you are more than likely to treat yourself with a food you do not normally get or with an item you have wanted for a long time like a new pair of boots or a cool new sweatshirt. But have you ever thought about giving yourself the gift of time?
Time to do nothing. Time to rejuvenate yourself. An hour or two or maybe even a whole day where you can do nothing. A day where you can do what you want. You want to run outside? Cool, go do it. You want to go have lunch by the beach? Awesome, enjoy that lunch.
We run around thinking that we are invincible. We act like working over forty hours a week, ten days straight, with no break is normal. We have turned into the people who do not give ourselves the time to simple just be. Wake up, work, home, sleep, repeat. Every. Single. Day.
When are we going to decide that it is okay to give ourselves a break? When are we going to decide that it is okay to have a moment of stillness? We live in a world that is so fast paced that we feel the second we lose track of time and fall behind we are playing catch up for the next year. What if we could train our minds into allowing us to appreciate and desire time off instead of extra hours at work? What if the stillness brought us joy instead of the dear of missing out?
The next time you find yourself overworked or needing a reward, give time a try. Time for you and you alone. That is the greatest gift you can give yourself.
