Why This Year's Grammy Noms Proves Grammys Are A Disgrace To Music

If you have a deep, artistic passion for music and you saw the recent Grammy nominations, I’m hoping you were as appalled as I was.

First of all, let’s take a look at the completely unjustified nominations of which there were several.

Drake

“Views”? Motherlovin “Views”? I fux wit Drake as much as the next guy, maybe even more than the next guy. But please Lord above how in the world did Drake’s newest album “Views” get nominated for anything at all, let alone the TOP PRIZE of Album of the Year?? Did you read the reviews for that album? They weren’t positive. But, like any good connoisseur of art I don’t base my opinions on the critics alone but my own thoughts and experiences. So, I gave it a fair shot, allowing it not one, not two, but three listens before I declared “Views” certified trash. A major L for Mr. Graham since he seems to be dropping albums at the same frequency that a rain cloud drops rain drops. Lots of drops y’all. And lots of drops are never a good sign.

Justin

Next up to bat is Mr. Justin. Although ‘Purpose” is filled with some of the sickest jams of the year, it certainly does not reach any kind of height to be even considered for a major award such as a the Grammy for Album of the Year. Also the best song on there is “I’ll show You” and definitely not “Love Yourself” the one that was actually nominated. But I’m not too heated about that. I just feel like there were probably better options out there.

Desiigner

What I’m really, really heated about above all is this man Desiigner getting nominated for best rap performance. Yo, God bless Desiigner I dig his energy and the way he can’t seem to stand still, but how did the judges stoop to the level of nominating “Panda”? I bet just about everyone of us were sick of it after the third listen. It’s the same thing over and over and there are virtually no lyrics. It definitely worked best in Kanye’s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 2” and probably should have stayed there.

I really shouldn’t be this surprised. This is the same squad of judges that picked “1989”, not even Taylor Swift’s best album, over “To Pimp A Butterfly”, which was one of the best artistic anythings on any medium in the past decade. But in hindsight, is fair skinned, blonde haired, blue eyed,

princess of America T Swift, really going to lose out to Compton born, Black man Kendrick “K Dot” Lamar? I’m not trying to make this a race thing I’m trying to make it a reality thing. It’s a societal thing.

It appears that you need to reach a certain level of acceptance from the American people before you can win a grammy, which is why Beyonce and Adele are most likely going to win everything, because there’s some sort of worldwide consensus that they are the absolute greatest. Everyone who is nominated are all the people who get the most radio play. And anyone who knows good music knows that radio stations seldom play the best music. It seems like the judges went through their kids soundcloud accounts and picked whatever was played the most. “Wow Sally loves this Drake guy let’s give him a Grammy nom!” What kind of bush league operation are they running here?

Yet, even as I write this I know that no one’s opinions will change. People are just so stubborn and opinionated they simply have no time for anyone else’s thoughts (J.Cole fans) so I feel I may have wasted my time. I, on the other hand, am always down for a calm, civil discussion as to why or why not certain music is better than others. Because that’s what I think makes music so great is that everyone hears things differently so everyone has their own opinions (except for J.Cole fans they all have the same opinions). But if you disagree, sit down with me next time you see me and we’ll discuss it. I’d love to talk it out in a civilized, adult manner.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
