The week eight matchup between the New York Giants and the New Orleans Saints was a very interesting matchup. Just how interesting was it? Here's a look at the entire game by the numbers:
101
The total number of combined Saints and Giants points. The Saints won the game, 52-49, on a 50-yard field goal made by Kai Forbath in the final seconds.
13
The total number of touchdowns Eli Manning and Drew Brees threw in the game. Manning threw six touchdowns (half of them went to Odell Beckham Jr.) and Brees threw seven.
It was also a historic day for Brees, as his seven touchdown passes in a game tied an NFL record. Other quarterbacks who had set the record include Peyton Manning, Nick Foles, Joe Kapp, Y.A. Tittle, George Blanda, Adrian Burk and Sid Luckman.
6
The total number of Giants players that are from Louisiana and/or played college football in Louisiana. Manning and Beckham were born in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, respectively, and are both Isidore Newman alumni. And as a lot of us already know, Beckham, Reuben Randle and Brad Wing all played college football at LSU.
The Australian-born Wing also attended Parkview Baptist in Baton Rouge as part of an international exchange program. He's even really good friends with fellow LSU Odyssey writer Shelby Tiede. How cool is that?
In addition, Giants running back Orleans Darkwa played college football at Tulane, while tight end Larry Donnell played at Grambling State.
Donnell said in a post-practice interview that he's used to the Superdome crowd noise and that he hadn't been in the Superdome since his last Bayou Classic game, which was in 2010.
4 (and 4)
The record that the Saints and Giants both have after week eight. While the Giants are sitting on top of the NFC East with their 4-4 record, the Saints are in third place in the NFC South, right behind Carolina and Atlanta.
Thankfully, the Saints will play both of these teams later on in the season. While it was disappointing seeing the Panthers win, I believe that the Saints will get their revenge and beat them in the Dome.
In addition, the Saints had a thrilling home victory over the Falcons on Thursday Night Football. I believe they will beat those dirty birds again for the final game of the season.
