The Getaway

Hey readers! I hope everyone is maintaining as well as possible this week. I am trying to incorporate a bit more themes of motivation and perseverance during these times. I know I've mentioned this before in my writings, but whatever positive note someone takes away from my work, it makes placing content on here more than worth it. There was a question I've seen people asking on social media recently and it was: where would you be right now if you had the opportunity? An individual may have the ideal luxurious vacation in mind while another could envision a quiet hideaway, nothing more. In response to this, I tried to personify it a tad according to my personal and ideal getaway. Stay safe everyone!

My mind sees the clouds,

Floating across the sky

The buzz of the city forgotten for awhile

The sight of the scene, drifting me

Into a peaceful lull

My ears only hear the sounds of nature

A symphony like no other around

Worries are lifted and replaced

By the serenity all around me

I sit in a cozy chair

A cup of tea to drink leisurely

The hot drink warms my thoughts

Traces of honey to soothe my soul

A breeze reminds me that

'This is your space to just be.'

I smile and close my eyes

Not asleep, but relishing in how

Reassured I feel

It matters not about luxury

It matters not about appearances

For in this getaway of mine,

I can breathe and feel freely

Solely taking in every moment

Savoring the earth's watchful eyes

A tear springs so suddenly

Whispering in astonishment, I ask,

'Can this be reality? A natural therapy?'

So long, the absence from being present

In nature and total silence save for the noise of earth

Saddened me, and I felt lost away

How much the sun rays

The green grass

The soft wind

Can be like gently and spiritually cleansing

I look up at the sky once more,

Head thrown back in glee

Nothing could take away

From the freedom and solace

Between nature, this moment, and me

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
