Dear friends that I met through the internet who are reading this,
I wanted to share my appreciation for you. I don't show my appreciation for you as much as I would show my appreciation to my friends I met in person. This should not discourage you into believing that you are less valid of friends than the ones I met in person. You are still amazing friends and I would not trade any of you for the world. There is so much that I want to say to all of you but I never got the time in order to do so.
I would like to start with the fact that I'm super grateful that all of you came into my life. I've always struggled to make friends in real life for the longest time, so meeting you has helped me gain the confidence to make more friends in real life. People tend to dismiss online friendships as "lesser than" or "dangerous" that "anyone who has online friends probably has no friends or lives in real life", but all of you proved otherwise. You proved that I can have meaningful relationships with others, whether it would be online or in person, and that is something I would never want to be taken away.
As much as I wish I had the strength to talk to others as I do now ten years ago, at the same time, I would not trade my awkwardness from middle and high school for anything because I would have never met all of you in the first place. All of you are my rocks and that is something that I will always be grateful for, no matter where life takes us. I know for a fact that wherever life takes me, I will always remember you and will remember how you helped me build my confidence and made me who I am today.
If you ever told me ten years ago that I would be where I am today, she would laugh right in your face. She would not believe you and would probably be filled with lots of doubt. I can happily say that you are the reason why I am where I am today and me from a decade ago would also be in disbelief that she would have met lots of great friends online. She would also be skeptical and would think that you're lying to put her in danger. But that was never the case.
What more can I say that I haven't said already? All of you are the best friends I would have ever had during my high school and college years and I would not trade our friendships for anything. I could not even count the times I was able to stand up for myself and give myself a boost of self-esteem because of you on either of my hands. Each and every one of you are the best friends I could ever have and I would never trade our friendships for anything.
Love,
A girl that owes everything to you
