"The Fosters" is a popular show on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) and its fanbase has grown over the years. It is a show for all ages, surrounding the trials and tribulations of a lesbian couple while raising their 5 children (4 of which were adopted, 1 of which was from one of their original marriages). The show does not only expose the common glitches in the foster care system, it deals with issues such as mental health spirals and brain injuries; relationships within and outside of a foster family; abortion addiction, feminism, disease, self-discovery, undocumented immigrants, trans rights, and so forth. "The Fosters" breaks all boundaries and isn’t afraid to touch on these subjects as well as other sensitive topics.
To catch you up with what is going on with each character, let’s start with the main one.
1. Callie
Callie is currently in a relationship with a transgender man named Aaron. This television relationship shows how “normal” that kind of relationship is, silencing all of the taboos. They are developing a sexual relationship with each other finally after a few episodes of being together. They do not go into detail, as they shouldn’t have to, about “how” it happened. Callie has a history of dating one man after another as many fans have pointed out, but it keeps the show interesting. If she stayed with one person throughout the show, it would honestly probably be boring.
2. Jesus and Jude
Jesus (on the left) is one of the adopted twins, his twin sister being Mariana. In the beginning of the show, he suffered from ADHD, which wasn’t nearly as bad as the added TBI (traumatic brain injury) he is suffering from this season. It has changed his behavior and affected all of his relationships.
Jude (on the right) is Callie’s half-brother. He currently has a boyfriend who is fed up with him for spending too much time with his girl best friend playing video games. The relationship is getting pretty rocky and fans liked his old boyfriend better, so if they break up it won’t be as sad.
Moving onto the other two siblings:
3. Mariana and Brandon
Mariana had a boyfriend who she cheated on, even though they were in love. Now, she is focusing more on herself and her new “hot” neighbor. She had a rocky love life because her other ex-boyfriend brought a gun to school and she was scared to leave him, but thankfully, eventually, he changed schools.
Brandon is the oldest and the biological son of one of his moms. He is also in a new relationship, following Callie’s path of relationship after relationship. But he seems to be happy with her.
The finale is September 5 at 8 p.m. on Freeform!
It seems we are going to find out something about Brandon’s girlfriend Grace. Based on the promos, fans are saying she might be sick because and within a conversation with Callie and he tells her he wants to “give her the best prom night ever.” His girlfriend was home-schooled and that’s all he knows. We are guessing Grace’s mom tells him, especially since in the previous episode she says that Grace “has no business having a boyfriend” even though she is over 18. All the older kids are also going to prom and Aaron thinks that Callie’s most recent ex might “steal” her away, to which she responds that she “isn’t a property” for someone to “steal.” Drama heats up, but if it didn’t would it really be "The Fosters"? Tune in to find out!
