It’s no secret that the “Finsta” world has been taking over. If you’re unaware of what a “Finsta” is and need to be caught up on the lingo. It’s what people call a fake Instagram. This makes a "Rinsta" your real Instagram. Basically, a "Finsta" is where people will make a new Instagram account that they show their life exposed and unedited and only let their closest friends follow it.
I was introduced to this coming into college and decided to make one too and join in on the fun. Scrolling through my feed I saw my friends honestly talking about their real life problems, showing their faces and bodies untouched by editing apps and people relating to others through their posts. Finsta seems like its own community.
But then I posed a question in my head: how come real Instagram is what you’re being fake on and your fake Instagram is what you’re being real on? Mind blown. However, with the world we live in today asking people to be themselves on a social media account is like asking Vine to come back--a lost cause.
So, I’ve been challenging myself to edit a little less, be myself a little more and stop worrying about likes. I've made my main goal being to integrate my “Finsta” to my “Rinsta" because I want people to see who I really am rather than just a perfectly airbrushed face.
While there are definitely some things that should be left off a real Instagram account, being someone you aren’t on your accounts is going out of style. Let's face it, we've all got our flaws and people are going to see them in person anyways. Not to mention life is more fun and easier when you just accept your mistakes and make fun of yourself. I just hope one day our Kardashian obsessed culture realizes that and joins in on being more transparent not just with yourself, but with the world too.
