Hey. Hello. Welcome.
If you're reading this, you have successfully stumbled upon the third post of the 'The Faith Series,' a series devoted to discovering what a true identity in Christ looks like. And while this is a public post about a personal journey, my hope is that others will be reminded of their spiritual identity centered on Jesus.
The identity statement I'm choosing to focus on this week is as follows:
"You are COMPLETE in Christ." Colossians 2:10
Seems simple enough, right? But as I dig deeper into this topic I realize it's easier said than done. I may understand the concept of grace and therefore that I have been rescued from my sins through Jesus' death on the cross. However, when it comes to living out my daily life, am I truly buying into the fact that Jesus is ALL I need?
Here is what society tells me. Society encourages the LIE-dentities that it is Jesus PLUS other things in life that will make me feel full. For example, it is Jesus plus money that will leave me feeling satisfied? Or Jesus plus friends? What is it for you? Is it Jesus plus good grades or a job or a car?
The truth is, I'm putting my eggs in the wrong basket. Jesus will be everything and MORE than I could ever need!
"Then Jesus declares, 'I am the bread of LIFE. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believe in me will never be thirsty." John 6:35
Our human hearts were designed for His completion and His companionship. Jesus is the key to any kind of satisfaction you are looking for. And without putting our trust in Him, we will be neglected of fullness and continue to be empty.
So that void in your heart... whether you are trying to fill the gap with romance or other peoples opinion of you... what if you filled it up with Jesus?
Let's do the math:
Jesus + Nothing = EVERYTHING.
Now if I truly believe this, I need to reshape how I choose to prioritize daily occurrences in my life. Recent reflections have led me to realign my values because the earthly, trivial issues I deal with on a day-to-day basis, guess what? They don't matter in the grand scheme of things! Why? Because Jesus + Nothing = Everything.
"So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:18
I want to sense God's fullness as I walk by faith. I want my faith to be SO strong, that I can confidently say less of me God, more of you. So instead of focusing on the things I can't control or trying to fill the void in my heart with romance, money, materialistic things, or success, I am going to pour into the identity God gave to me that I am made COMPLETE through Him.
I have so much to look forward to regardless of my circumstances! Jesus SAVED me, gave me LIFE, and has made me FULL through Him! Amen.
