It's right after Christmas and we're all feeling extra full on ham and pies and ready for change. Thank God New Years is right around the corner and time to change your life around! Here's what everyone plans to do and what actually happens...

1. "I'm going to go to the gym more."

Expectation: I'm going to go to the gym ATLEAST 3 times a week or go for a run!!! I got this... New year, new me! I can totally lose 10 pounds before that wedding next month.... and by Spring Break just call me Beyonce.

Reality: All of these thoughts will cross your mind: "I just got home from work, all I want to do is sleep", "I had a really hard week....I deserve that donut!", "Ehhhh, I'll go to the gym tomorrow.." , "It's cold outside and Netflix just sounds way more inviting lets be real here." "It's the thought that counts right?"

2. "I'm going to go out to eat less."

Expectation: This is easy right? All I have to do is go to the grocery store with my weekly meal plan that consists of kale, vegetables and a little fruit for dessert.

Reality: You're tired, you just got off work and you have the option to either hit up the fast food drive thru or go home and cook dinner.... (Tacos & Fries win every time) It's just easy and convenient! What's kale anyways?!

3.) "I'm going to get at least 8 hours of sleep."

Expectation: Easy, I will just go to bed earlier and cut out an episode of Grey's Anatomy on Netflix.

Reality: HA! Good one.... Life is crazy and on a good day, I'll get six hours of sleep between the work, roommates, crazy kids in my life and Netflix.

4. "I'm going to eat better."

Expectation: I'll go to the grocery store this week and strictly avoid every snack food, dessert and pizza!

Reality: THE CRAVING FOR SOME PIZZA IS SO REAL RIGHT NOW!!! We have to call Papa Johns... I'll just eat some of this salad with it...on the side.....with ranch. Close enough?

5. Spend less time on Facebook/ Twitter.

Reality: ...Well, this is awkward.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
