Some advice I have learned after a month at Pace University, these are the essentials!

1. DO get involved

Pace always has an event going on or a leadership opportunity open. When you get involved, you can earn back all the money you paid for those student fees in the beginning of the year. You might as well get some free food and gain some connections!

2. DON'T get on the elevator to only go up/down one floor

This is incredibly annoying, especially when the elevator is jammed full. My rule of thumb is to not go on an elevator unless where you're headed is more than one floor up or two floors down.

3. DO ask questions

Connect with your advisor and professors! They can answer your questions and clarify your world, they may even be able to connect you along the right path. It never hurts to ask!

4. DON'T wear clothing that could be mistaken for a weapon

This may be too soon, but I have to mention it. For everyone's well-being.

5. DO get connected with your floor

I LOVE my floor. We connected right away and have made some amazing memories. It's really important to have these people in your life because you are all going through the same thing!

6. DON'T just stand in the middle of a walkway or hallway

This is my BIGGEST pet peeve and it honestly ruins my day for a good 5 seconds. I don't like being irritated or mean, but if you are casually chatting in the middle of the hallway I will plow through you.

7. DO come with an open mind and face challenges as they come

College is hard, no is denying that. Sometimes you are so stressed you're pulling out hair. Sometimes you miss your own bed. Sometimes you just need to count to ten and focus on how you got here and what you want to accomplish, you'll get there.

8. DON'T pretend to be someone you're not

This is the worst thing you could do. Please just be yourself, the right crowd will come around. It's not worth forcing you to be something you're not just to please other people. We need to learn from Cady.

9. DO what you came here for!

College is all about having fun and being young but don't forget why you're here. Stay focused and keep your eyes on the prize!!

10. DON'T feel afraid to socialize and put yourself out there

You won't get anything out of the experience if you stay locked in your room. Even if it's for a little while, go out and take everything in, it goes by fast!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
