This week is important for students of The University of Southern Mississippi. On Tuesday and Thursday, we can vote not just for our Homecoming court, but for issues such as our smoking policy on campus.
Election Commission has been working for weeks in preparation for this. For them, it is their primetime. I am so excited to work as a team to achieve this awesome feat.
Now, for many students, elections are nothing more than people annoyingly campaigning by the library. In reality, they are so much more than that. Elections are one of the only times that YOU can voice your opinion. Here is an insider's guide to election day.
DO: VOTE
If you want to get the so-called "magic sticker," get out there and VOTE! People campaigning are less likely to be in your face if you vote.
DO: Be nice to your poll person.
All of the people on election commission want to be there. With this fact in mind, please be nice to them.
DO: Encourage other people to vote!
Election day is usually one of my favorite days in the semester at Southern Miss because of all of the enthusiasm on campus. Spread it around!
DO: Alert your poll person if things go wrong.
PLEASE let your people know if something goes wrong. There could be a glitch in the system that is not your fault. Let them know.
DON'T: Try to vote for one of your friends
Okay, yes, people are busy. But would you attempt this at any local election in your hometown? NO! Please don't try to vote for one of your friends. It's not cool, bruh.
DON'T: Have a bad attitude.
Like I previously said, we are there because we want to be there. Please take this into consideration when you turn out to the polls.
DON'T: Be mean to the people campaigning
I get it, many of them can be quite annoying. But being mean will not solve anything, but that goes for life in general.
By following these simple things, Election Day will go much more smoothly.
