The Don'ts and Do's of Handling Booze

It's that time of the year, with college students and young adults living it up at parties it is important to stay safe and have fun while doing so. With Halloween right around the corner and well into the college year, it must be mentioned on how to stay safe when handling booze. With these tips and tricks, people can not risk of being in danger while still being able to drink alcohol.

The Do's

Set drinking limits for yourself: Before going off to a party, set a drink limit for yourself. Practicing this tip will allow for alcohol to enter the blood stream at a slower pace which will allow be more safer for the human body.

Alternate between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (water): Switching to water or some other non-alcoholic beverage will allow the proper time for alcohol to be absorbed in the blood stream. It does not hurt to take a break and you will be more thankful you did this.

Know the signs of alcohol poisoning: If you see sings of yourself or someone else feeling nauseous, vomiting, unresponsiveness, and confusion, stop drinking and focus on recovering. This is a sign that too much alcohol has entered the blood stream in a quick amount of time.

The Don'ts

Don't mix different types of alcohol and other drugs: Drugs and alcohol together is like mixing water and oil, they don't mix with each other. Indulging in both alcohol and drugs will have serious consequences since they have different effects on the body. Instead, choose one over the other while at a party.

Don't forget to eat before and/or during drinking: One of the reasons why people experience hangover from a binge of alcohol drink is that the body absorbs the alcohol taken in very quickly. Thus, a good way to avoid this is to eat something before drinking.

Don't go out alone, stick with a group of friends you trust: Be sure to make it home with a group of friends you trust and during your time drinking at a party. It is better to be safe then sorry, and having a trusted individual there by your side will make someone safer as opposed to a stranger.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
