There was a different feeling in the atmosphere on November 9, 2016,
You could feel it in the air.
People went to sleep the night before thinking of what could have been.
We let out a swear and then we gave a prayer.
It felt like a hangover that would never go away,
This isn’t okay.
My best friends awoke to puffy eyes.
They held back their pain,
And together we rose,
But it won’t be the same.
Silence filled the void of disbelief.
Why must we feel so much grief?
My teacher walked into the classroom
And stood as students looked at the floor,
The sadness continued to loom.
He began his deplore,
“The world has changed since I last saw you all.”
Tears began to fall.
All this progress has come undone.
His authority already brings more fear.
The nation is again broken,
His words are not sincere.
Racism is already more apparent than before.
I dread the future furthermore.
Ever since the first day,
People started acting out with violence
As if all they had been taught went away.
People don’t spread the respect they had once.
Everyone is so unaware
That their actions can lead to despair.
Anger flooded the street,
Reminding the community of our rights.
They will not accept defeat,
Amongst unfair circumstances, our city unites.
Sorrow to grief to anger to hope,
Together, we can cope.
The electoral college is what we must abolish,
For the popular vote had it right.
Like those pointless third party votes for Harambe, it must perish.
I truly didn’t expect it to effect the night.
The system was fraud,
Just like how our future president is massively flawed.
I don’t understand how this vote was so easy for my generation comprehend,
While others simply turn their head.
We don't mean to offend,
But our future is not yours to shred.
We just allowed him to put our entire country on his knee,
Yet I don’t even trust him to run our army.
His plans are contentious,
He is in denial of global warming,
He will only cause a fuss,
He doesn’t understand the catastrophe that his plans will bring.
I fear for our country,
And we will have to pay the ultimate fee.
Love trumps hate,
I pray that it all works out in the end,
But that doesn’t determine our fate.
I don’t have much more positivity to send.
I’m scared,
And I wish more people cared.
