4 Ways My Cats Taught Me How To Love And What Love Is

I adopted my two adorable cats when they were three months old, and they are six months old now. I play with them, I clean after them (sometimes), and feed them. Believe it or not, it changed my perspective on love and how to love someone. They are miracles in my life; their delicates fur, sparkly eyes, and soft smiles can make any of my horrible days changed to a fantastic day in just a second. I love them, and they teach me the way one should love:

1. Giving individual space is important

"Shhh... She's sleeping"

There are multiple times when I came home and I just wanted to pet them all the time. I babied them, I carry them, kiss their cheeks, and hold them in my lap. I suffocated them with love neediness. No, you should not do that. As a matter a fact, that is a no-no in a relationship. Give them some space, let them know you trusted them. Even my cats don’t like that, and they would want just to run as fast as they can when I try to grab them.

2. Don’t be a jealous lover

"Waiting for bae to text back"

This is a big thing; even cats get jealous. I sometimes pet my cat called Roxane, and my other cat, Jhonny, will attack her recklessly if I lose a sight of her. He would also come to me and lick my toes to get my attention, and I returned to him by saying, “Wait until your turn!!” This is one of the fundamental basis' in a relationship. It is healthy to be jealous, but when it gets out of hand until your partner think you have trust issues, then this is the time you have to work with yourself.

3. You choose to love them

You are sharing life with someone, and you have to go through the ups and downs. I often got shocked of how much my cat grows, they became fatter, and their furs are getting longer. I love them. But also, I always love them even when they pooped at my bathroom showing that they are sick, and yes, I would still be there for them and take care of their tiny body. The same as in a relationship, it is a decision that you made from day one that you will take care of your loved ones.

"You can see through my eyes... I want something real"

4. Loving someone makes food taste better

I always felt like I was drawn in the ocean of time when I play with my cats. Loving someone made you feel precious and made life a little better because of their presence. Hence, food will taste better because you are eating with someone you cared about.

My cats taught me how to love, not only love for other pets, or relationship with the man of my dreams, but also friends and family.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
