Reba McEntire recently starred in a humorous promotion for KFC. For some reason, people are absolutely livid about this.
Yes, you heard me right. Reba McEntire is starring in a new commercial for KFC, dressed in a Colonel Sanders costume and singing a song. I recently read an article that was talking about the disgrace that this commercial was to society. Curious as to how bad it could be, I decided to watch it. It is literally just Reba dressed as Colonel Sanders, singing a song about fried chicken. It was actually quite funny, as I’m sure that was the original purpose and intent of the commercial in the first place. Just a bit of goofy humor, nothing to get too upset about.
But then I began to read the comments section. (Pro-tip: NEVER read comments sections.) Every single comment was furious, negative, and hateful. People were saying how KFC is promoting “transgenderism” (is that a word?) and “the homosexual agenda.” One of my favorite comments was lamenting the company’s “appeal to a liberal market.” Thousands of people were commenting about how the video was wrong, part of the liberal agenda, and that transgender people are taking over the world. (Honey, I wish that were true.)
To be completely honest, I was surprised. Not surprised that people were being terrible because that’s not surprising anymore, but rather surprised that these people had no sense of humor. The commercial was pretty funny. Dressing up in costumes and singing songs is a staple of comedy, right? At least that’s what I had always thought. Whatever these people in the comments were seeing, I just wasn’t seeing it that way. I still see it that way. Did these people have no sense of humor at all? Were they being the sensitive snowflakes that they themselves love to rant about? And how often did these people eat KFC to care so much?
Both the left and the right can be very hypocritical, I’m not saying the left doesn’t have it’s faults either. However, ultra-conservatives always seem to be attacking people online and even in real life for being ‘special snowflakes’ and having no sense of humor. They always say that liberals are too sensitive and get ‘triggered’ at every word that comes out of somebody’s mouth. In my experience, though, I have found that this also applies to conservatives. I’ve never met somebody more easily upset than an ultra-conservative hearing a joke about themselves. Or just a joke about anything funny in general. Hell, they even think that making fun of presidents on Saturday Night Live is a NEW thing. Saturday Night Live has been making fun of politics since the show began. Or do we not remember Will Ferrell's George W. Bush impression and the weekly roastings of the entire Clinton family? The American Right gets just as easily ‘triggered’ themselves at even the most innocent piece of goofiness, such as a KFC commercial where a country singer is wearing a funny costume.
So is KFC run by those evil ‘transgenderism’ pushers? Or are American conservatives just way more sensitive than they care to admit?
