As a young child, I was taught about the seasons in school. How to differentiate all the seasons from each other based on the months and the weather. While learning about the seasons it always seemed as if there was something exciting about each one, however, it wasn't until I began to grow older that I began to appreciate that as a New Englander, I get to witness the changes in nature.
As the calendar continues to change, the weather outside is also changing. In the beginning of the calendar year, here in New England, we experience a cold blustery winter. While the idea of cold days doesn't please everyone, I definitely enjoy the opportunity to be able to experience winter and see the pretty glistening snowfall over the tree tops. There is something calming about looking out your window with a cup of coffee and looking out at the white covered ground. Although winter is nice, and I often long for just one more snow day, when the calendar reaches March, I am always happy to be greeted by Spring.
Beginning on April 21st, here in New England I have the opportunity to experience the beginning of spring. The arrival of spring often brings showers to us here in Rhode Island, however, by the end of spring I enjoy feeling the fresh air, seeing the days get longer, and spotting all the pretty flowers that are blooming. But, yet again, by the end of this season, I am ready for change and to be greeted by the next season.
Here comes summer, the season that most people look forward to. The beginning of summer marks the end of another school year, and a time for new adventures with friends, and family. Summer brings Rhode Islanders back to their home base, or in other words, the ocean, and allows people to relax and watch the sunsets and feel the warm breeze.
While it is definitely hard to say goodbye to summer, Fall greets us next. With the beginning of fall comes going back to school and of course the cooler weather. Here in New England, fall means getting to see the change in color of the foliage, the return of pumpkin spice, Apple picking, and of course many of the children's favorite: Halloween.
Although most of us have learned about the seasons at a young age, sometimes it takes longer to appreciate seeing the changes. I know that many of us are busy, however, please try and take some time out of your day to day life and just stop, relax, and appreciate the opportunity we have as new Englanders to experience all four of the seasons, and all that they have to offer. And of course remember, if you don't love a season, our seasons change every few months, and a new time will be here soon.
