"We all wear different masks for different reasons. Some masks we put on because it’s truly who we want to be. Some we wear because we can’t bear to face what’s really underneath. Or because it’s what someone else needs us to be. And some masks we wear because we hope to stay hidden. But that’s the problem with wearing masks. They can be ripped off at any moment." —Gossip Girl
Chameleon
The charging fire preying on the mind at sleep,
Bleak eyes scaling sour emotions
Run, skimper, pelt down the faulty line, shady in the cocoon.
Cheap feet glide across spiky pine-coned concrete
The crack of an awakening spouts, as nature blooms
And the musky dirt shrivels up as seeds devour.
Earthly tones wrap around the scathing heat,
Feeds on the mind of the naïve,
Shoots at its versatile enemy.
Hiding in its shell on the tree,
Turning colorless emotions to hide from reality,
In the dusk of the night.
Whirling mind unravels from its fetal position
Scared and fragile to the deafening hollow of nature’s steps,
As the fickle wind blows from right to left.
Mind over body, body envelops the mind
Mirrored transparent decisions made in colors,
Transform from self to everyone else.
Shadow sends chills down the chameleon’s spine,
Thrashing and thawing its blind eyes
Into the making of a brand new story
