It has been a week since the events that transpired at the US Capitol on January 6th. I will admit and I feel like I should preface this article by saying I am not an expert, I do not know exactly what transpired in and out of the Capitol Building that day outside of what we have all heard on news outlets such as CNN, FOX, MSNBC as well as social media outlets like Twitter and Facebook. What I can say and talk about is what this event and the events that may still happen saw about the state of our nation, our people and our country
Wednesday January 6th, tens of thousands, quite possibly hundreds of thousands of Trump supporters effectively laid siege to our nation's capital, forcing their way into the Capitol Building, many of which were out for blood. We have seen the images and videos of Trump supporters clashing with police, throwing projectiles at the police lines, and the individuals carrying plastic restraints, which one could assume meant that not were there intentions to take the Capitol Building, but also to take hostages, whether to execute or to hold for ransom
All of this chaos lasted well into the evening, when the Capitol Police, alongside the National Guard were able to establish some form of order

The events of January 6 sends a crystal clear message: We are an extremely fractured and divided nation.
Now, this is, of course, no surprise. We have known this for the past 4 or so years. However, I feel like what happened last Wednesday was the pinnacle of the divide of our nation. Not only based on race, religion, ideology but quite simply the realities in which we see the world. Wednesday proved to many Americans the severity and how dangerous the idea of the "Two Americas" really is.
We live in an America where reality and truth can be subjective. Where loyalty to a party, even more to a man, takes reign for select people over truth, that it is more important to push forth certain agendas and beliefs over the collective good and prosperity of the nation
As I have stated previously, this has been something that has been building up for the past few years. The lines have already been drawn in the sand between liberals and conservatives, between wrong and right, right or wrong.
What makes the situation currently even worse is that it very well may not be over.
The inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden will take place next Wednesday. There have already been reports of violent protests being planned throughout the entire country. There have already more National Guard sent to better secure the Capitol and ensure the safety of those present when the time comes.
We saw our nation through its better angels, through the good and the just in our nation. Not to say that we must fall into pessimism and hate for our country. There is certainly nothing wrong with being optimistic and seeing the so-called "bright side of life."

However, for too long has the majority of our country been ignorant of the cracks and injustices present in our country.
Racial divides.
Social divides
Economic Divides
Political Divides
These have all been allowed to fester in our nation and spread like a malignant tumor in our nation, amongst our people.
The way that our country responds and moves forward, especially starting in the Biden administration will be crucial in determining what kind of nation our children and grandchildren will live and grow up in.
Not a day goes by since that faithful day that I have not thought and prayed for the future and safety of our nation and our people, and that those in power, whether they be Democrats or Republicans, liberal or conservative, will have the courage to stand up for what is right, even if it goes against the much ingrained partisanship that has seeped the walls and halls of our government.
