Open Letter To The Boss That Everybody Hates

We all know that person. It is you.

We have all worked in an environment where there is a boss that everybody hates. Whether it is an upper manager, a direct supervisor that we report to, or someone else in the office that we have to cross paths with on a daily, there is almost always an elephant in the room.

This is to the boss that everybody hates.

There is always going to be that person that is going to be mean, derogatory, nasty, negative, and just downright nasty. There is always going to be that supervisor, manager or boss that is going to be disrespectful, inconsiderate, not courteous, and more than anything, cannot give you the time of day without making you angry.

We all know that person.

When we go into work every morning, every afternoon, or every overnight shift, we all know there is that boss that everybody hates. We know he or she will be on our shift, or maybe they will be on the previous shift, or they will be on the next shift. But one way or another, we are going to have to cross paths with them, deal with them, put on a fake face, give them a happy smile, and when we walk away, we all can feel the daggers in our back, the blood seeping out of our open wounds, and know that he or she would destroy us, run over our rotting corpse, and spit on us dying in the street if they could.

We all know that person.

Whether we work at a gas station, a convenience store, an industrial shop, a professional environment, or work with children, we are all in a workplace environment with other people. No matter what job we are doing, we are going to have to report to a boss. We are going to have to deal with a manager. And we are all going to eventually deal with the boss everybody hates.

We all know that person.

This is to the boss that everybody hates. This is to that person that everyone in the workplace knows is a fake. This is calling out that person that is angry, mean, nasty or derogatory. We all know you. We see you. We know what you are doing. And you may or may not realize it, but everybody hates you. We don't want to work with you. We don't want to talk to you. We don't want to be your friend. We don't want to deal with you. We don't even like you. We feel sorry for your husband or wife. We feel sorry for your kids. We feel sorry for your family. And as much as we hate you, we even feel sorry for you.

We all know that person. It is you.

When you come into work, you can put on a fake smile, be nice, pretend to like everyone, and pretend that you want to fit in. But we know what you are doing. You are sharpening the knife that you want to turn into someone's back. You are sharpening your claws that you want to dig into someone's unsuspecting neck. You are working up your courage, your energy, and your ambition to do something to someone that will upset them, anger them, ruin their day, and send them home upset. We know you. We see you. We don't like you. We don't want to be around you. And I'd go as far as saying that you are that boss that everyone hates.

We all know that person. It is you.

When we go into work and walk by you, we cringe. We see you head into your office with your fake little smile, with your fake little personality, and your fake attitude. We walk by and whisper about you. We talk to our coworkers about you. We talk about you at lunch. We talk about you when we're in the car. We talk about you on the work line. We talk about you at lunch. Hell, we even talk about you when we go out socially at the bar. You are the boss that everybody hates. We all know that person. It is you.

Are you out there reading this? I sure hope so. Because you will know that this is about you. It is about the work boss that everybody hates. It is about the person that nobody can stand. It is about the person that nobody wants to talk to, nobody wants to trust, and nobody wants to be friends with.

We all know that person. It is you.

I have worked with people like you. I have dealt with people like you. I have looked myself in the mirror and known I was a fake because of people like you. I have been disgusted by people like you. I have been disappointed by people like you. I have wanted to get away from working with people like you. And I will never be friends with people like you.

Now this is where I have a question for you. Why do you do it? Why do you badger people? Why do you anger people? Why do you make them upset? Why do you mistreat them? Why are you disrespectful to them? Why are you such a horrible person? Why are you so evil? Why are you that boss that everybody hates? Do you enjoy being that person? Does it make you feel good? Does it make you feel bigger, stronger, and faster? Are you that unhappy, miserable, and lacking self-confidence that you have to be that person? You are in a position of authority, so you know you can push people around, you can be disrespectful to them, and you can say or do what you want because you are in charge. Do you like doing that? Do you like disrupting people's lives? Do you like ruining their days? Do you like being that person that everybody hates?

We all know that person. It is you.

I just don't understand. Why do you do it? Why do you want to ruin people's lives? Why do you want to be so disrespectful and inconsiderate? Why do you want to be so mean? Are you that horrible of a person that you have to make others feel so unloved, so unwelcome, so miserable, so unhappy, and so bad that you can go home feeling like a stronger person? Well, I'm here to tell you that you aren't. You are none of those. You don't fit into the category of a good person. You don't fit into a category of anything that anyone likes. You are no one's friend. I'm sorry to say, chances are your husband or wife doesn't like you, your kids don't like you, your coworkers don't like you, and nobody wants to be around you. You are that boss that everybody hates.

We all know that person. It is you.

I would like to pray for you at night but it is difficult. I would like to forgive you but I can't. I would like to say I hope one day you become a better person, find your happy place, and you turn yourself around to be the person that others like. But knowing how long you've been this way, I cannot imagine it will ever happen. More likely, you will continue to be the person that everyone hates. You will continue to be the person nobody wants to be friends with. You will be that person that everyone talks about behind their back. You will be that person that people will be friendly to, but the minute you walk away, we will laugh at you, degrade you, insult you, and talk about you as if you are the most evil person on the planet. We all know what you are. You are that boss that everybody hates.

We all know that person. It is you.

And I'm here to tell you that I am sorry for you. I am saddened for you. I am disappointed in you. I am disgusted in you. And I hope one day you wake up and realize that nobody likes you, nobody wants to be near you, and nobody wants to talk to you. You are that boss that everybody hates. I hope one day you wake up and discover this.

You know the person I'm talking about. That person is you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
