Bruce Springsteen fans, now is our time. The Boss will be releasing his first autobiography in a little over a week, on September 27!
We know Springsteen from his rusty songs about the working class and his amazing ability to put on a show, but now he’s taking his stage to a whole new level. He’s written an autobiography over the past seven years and it is officially going to be released very soon. There’s something about an autobiography that’s different, sure, it is being told by the person themselves, which makes it more personal and more relatable. But beyond that, an autobiography about Springsteen will really give readers an inside look into the Boss’s life, more than he puts out in his music (which is already a lot).
According to Springsteen’s website, this book will discuss him growing up in New Jersey, his relentless search for success, the people he met along the way, and the personal struggles he faced. The book, "Born to Run," will explain what the song really means which may be eye-opening for many people. Springsteen says in the book, “in a project like this, the writer has made one promise, to show the reader his mind. In these pages, I’ve tried to do this.”
In his most recent interview with Vanity Fair, Springsteen explains that the song "Born to Run" is always a crucial part of his sets. It always seems to fit perfectly and there is never a question of where it will go. It usually starts the beginning of his encore set, and all songs after are supposed to play the falling action role of the story, bringing the show to an end. He also stresses in this interview the attachment and connection he has with the song, ultimately leading him to name the book after it.
When I discovered that Springsteen was writing an autobiography, I pre-ordered the book that night and tried to find tickets to see him on his book tour. The book tour is sure to be a more personal experience with the Boss because he will not be playing any music. He makes that very clear in any place that you try to find tickets, which are now sold out.
The Boss is known for his music, his showmanship, his normalcy. But writing a book is a whole new chapter. I’m excited to read his words in a different sense, in a different light, writing words, not lyrics. I’m excited to see how the Boss writes without a beat, without a harmony, without his incredible band behind him. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. You can pre-order it here.
