The Blessings Of Easter

Easter is so much more than just egg hunts and candy. It's when Jesus overcame sin and rose again.

God’s passion is you. His passion for His children is overwhelming. As Easter is once again upon us, you might be wondering how to think about, or how to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, as Lord and Savior. Some of you may not even celebrate Easter and are curious as to what Easter is or perhaps you are also curious about the story of Jesus dying on the cross.

God longs to have a relationship with you and all people as His children. He loved every single one of us so much that He sent His only son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for each and every one of your wrongdoings. Every time you sin, you can and should ask for forgiveness. He will forgive you as long as you ask for forgiveness with your full heart. You can always turn to Him no matter what we go through. He will always be there for you to listen and take care of you in your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs.

One way to celebrate Easter is to ask for forgiveness from God and accept that you want Jesus as the Lord over your life. Another way you can celebrate is to know that you are loved, by God Himself. Jesus was sent from Heaven to Earth to save each of you from sin, death and eternal damnation in Hell. He was sentenced to death on Good Friday, placed in a tomb and then three days later rose from the dead, proclaiming victory over Satan. Because of this victory, you now have a secured place in Heaven when He calls you home.

Think about it. Easter is the ultimate symbol of love. Good Friday is also the ultimate symbol of sacrifice. No one else has endured what your Savior endured while showing His love for you. Jesus showed all people that love is sacrifice.

God’s love is never ending and unfailing. Whenever you think you made a mistake that is unforgivable or that you may be unlovable, remember that He will do anything for you to have you as His own child. He always has, and always will love you no matter what happens in your life. Easter is a message of God’s never ending passion and love for you as His child.

He died on Good Friday. Both Satan and the world thought Jesus was defeated. Satan thought he had won it all. The good news is, that three days later, on Easter morning, Jesus rose from the dead, as the ground shook with a mighty earthquake, and the door to the tomb was opened.

Jesus’ whole purpose was to come live on the Earth, preach His Father’s gospel and then die on the cross so we can have the same intimate relationship with God, that He has with the Father and that He longs to have with you.

If God’s passion wasn’t you, then none of you would even be alive today. None of you would be here on earth. We are all here for God’s purpose and if He didn’t have a plan for you in your life, where would you be right now? You’d be a lot worse off than you are. God's passion for all of us is shown through both Good Friday and Easter.

He gives you breath every second of every day and gives you the knowledge to complete the tasks that have been assigned to you. Sometimes you complete tasks with ease, while other times, you complete a task with much pain. Jesus went through His ultimate pain and suffering, and his death, with much difficulty. Easter happened at the right time. God knew Jesus would die to save you.

Look at Jesus’ death in this way: He never gave up through His ultimate pain and suffering, so you shouldn’t give up when times get difficult either. It teaches you to turn to God and ask for His help, the way Jesus asked God for help during His most desperate hour. He didn’t want to endure this pain and even asked His father to take away the cup of sorrow in Luke 22:42. He said, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." If Jesus didn’t give up, you don’t have to give up either.

He allows you to do what you want to do, with your free will. He allows you to live in the United States of America where we have freedom of religion and freedom of speech and other rights.

He gives you the food you eat and the clothes on your back. He gives you a family that loves you. There are countless other blessings from him in your life as well. All you have to do is search for Him and the blessings He offers you, and you will come to find that He does have a passion for you.

The blessings of Easter are many, but the biggest blessing is the fact that God loves you enough to die for you. To take up your sins on Himself and suffer eternal punishment that you so rightfully deserve. You can be thankful every day, not just on Easter, that you are saved. An even bigger blessing is the opportunity to get to know God in your own unique special way. You have the opportunity to get to know God through prayer and petition, and by reading His word daily, as well as having the privilege of teaching others what Easter is really all about.

Jesus’ death and resurrection can teach you a lot about the person Jesus was and is, the passion that He has for you, and it can also teach you about the ultimate sacrifice of love. John 15:13 gives us the truest example of true love, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”

The next time someone asks you about Easter, or if someone says that Easter is just another holiday off, people of faith can be that reminder to others that Easter is so much more than just egg hunts and candy. Easter is when Jesus overcame sin and rose again to save us all. May Jesus, as well as the true spirit and meaning of Easter live in all of us.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
