“I’m only going to watch one episode”, says everyone who watches Netflix. Almost everyone has been sucked into the Netflix black hole of “I’m only going to watch one episode” when in reality it turns into a five-hour binge watch. I already know you’re saying to yourself, “pssh that’s totally not me”. You sit on a throne of lies because I know you binge watched Stranger Things last week. Stop lying to yourself honey.
It is impossible to just watch one episode of something, especially when the show has 12 seasons and you think to yourself, “if I watch all 12 season I will have accomplished at least one thing in my life.” I will admit that I am that loser who feels accomplished when I have watched every single episode of a show. The feeling an Olympian gets when they win gold is equivalent to how I felt when I finished all seasons of Grey’s Anatomy. That’s not equivalent? Well your opinion is irrelevant here, sorry not sorry.
On a much more serious note, or as serious as I can get, peoples' brains are wired to continue with somethign when we are intrigued by it. For example, if you like a certain food, you have a tendency of continuing to get that food because your brain is intrigued by it. It’s kind of similar to TV shows as to when you start watching something and you are intrigued by it, you will continue to watch it. This is why you don’t just watch one episode but instead you binge watch shows. You can’t help it when you get hooked on a show and watch every season of it in just one day.
I don’t know if you’re anything like me but once I get hooked on something I have to keep up with it. I have an unhealthy love for chicken tenders because as a child I had a habit of getting them to where now I live for them. I have the same obsession with Grey’s Anatomy, I can’t stop watching because they always leave you with that cliffhanger and you feel obligated to watch the next episode or you feel rude. Don’t blame yourself, blame Netflix. They are the ones who keep bringing out good shows that you just have to watch. Don’t feel lazy or a loser because you binge watch Netflix for hours on hours because almost everyone around you is having the same addiction as you.
