The Best Things Kids Have Said To Me

The most thoughtful, clever, creative, and downright hilarious things my kids have said to me through the years.

The Best Things Kids Have Said To Me
Think Pynk

Anyone who has worked with kids knows that you never know what is going to come out of a child’s mouth. Throughout my years as a camp instructor, tutor, and student teacher I have heard lots of thoughtful, clever, creative, and downright hilarious statements from the kids I have worked with. Here are just a few of my favorites:

"Have you ever looked at an oatmeal raisin cookie and wondered if it was created as a prank? Because it looks a lot like a chocolate chip cookie, but it tastes bad."

No, I haven’t. But now that you mention it I can’t help but wonder…

“My pet rocks won’t tell me their names yet. We’re not at that level of our friendship.”

It’s okay, you’ll get there. Friendship happens over time.

“Are the mugs in the zoo kitchen for the zookeepers to make coffee when they get tired and want a break from making the animals’ food?”

Probably not, but if I was a zookeeper I would certainly want them to be.

“When I pet the elephant it didn’t feel soft and smooth like I thought it would. Instead it felt rough and hairy, like my mom’s armpit.”

I don’t really know what to say to that one…

“You look tired and you have a lot of zits on your face.”

You can always count on children to tell it like it is!

"It's the time travelers... with Subway!"

(One of my campers referring to the Amish people eating their lunch.)

"There shouldn't be those symbols of boys and girls on the doors of bathrooms, because some boys like to wear dresses and some girls like to wear pants."

This is a kid who knows what’s up, and who is going to make a major positive impact in the future!

“You’re going to be a great teacher someday.”

My kids always know how to make me smile. I am so lucky to spend my time at work with such incredible young people who never fail to keep me on my toes, keep me laughing, and keep me appreciating my life and what I do.

Bruce Springsteen's Top 7 Lyrics

Everything Bruce says in his classic rock songs.

bruce springsteen album cover born in the usa

Anyone who was born and raised in New Jersey (or anywhere really) knows of Bruce Springsteen, whether or not they like him is a whole other situation. I hope that his hundreds of classic rock songs and famous high energy performances, even in his sixties he can put on better concerts than people half his age, are at least recognizable to people of all ages. Love him or hate him (I identify with the former) you have to admit that some of his songs and interviews have inspirational quotes and lyrics.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Marconi Beach

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Fibonacci Sequence Examples: 7 Beautiful Instances In Nature

Nature is beautiful (and so is math). The last one will blow your mind.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

the beatles

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.
