As this decade comes to a close, it is time to reminisce about 10 years full of amazing things. From the generation that brought you some crazy styles in all forms, some serious political activism, and just overall a rollercoaster from start to finish, the 2010s was truly a decade for the books.

As most of us college kids grew up in this decade, it's nostalgic and almost saddening to reminisce on our childhood and the last 10 years that we grew up in. 10 years is a long time, especially as a kid because when you think about it, I personally entered this decade at 9 years old, in elementary school with my whole child life ahead of me.

Now, I am leaving this decade as a 19-year-old adult. There's so much this decade has done to help me grow and shape me into the person I am today, so let's pay homage to these last 10 years.

Between music, celebrity gossip, and so much more, here are some of the best 'things' about the 2010s.

1. Music.

From cookie-cutter pop in the early 2010s to boy/girl groups, to K-Pop, to hip hop, and EDM the music scene was poppin' in the 2010s. With all sorts of new artists, more collaborations than ever, and mixing of genres unlike anything we've seen in the past. A very heavy influx of international artists and music also became a popular feat in the last decade. Here is a playlist from Spotify with some of the most popular songs that defined the 2010s for us.

2. Movies.

This decade brought us some classics and goodies like 'Bridesmaids,' 'A Star is Born,' and 'The Wolf of Wall Street,' along with some of our childhood/adolescent favorites like 'Frozen,' the continuation of the 'Toy Story' series, and 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower,' and let's not forget about the hype surrounding all of the amazing superhero movies from this decade! Here is a list of some of the decade's most major motion pictures!

3. Fashion.

All sorts of fashions were present throughout the 2010s, but many of them were revamped versions of old styles. Platform shoes, cropped everything, trendy sneakers, mom jeans, and athleisure are just a few of the many styles that made up this decade. Let's not forget accessories and how they basically went from small to big, back to small over the past ten years (hello sunglasses and purses). In kid fashion, we had the prints phase, the neon phase, the mixture of the two, and the fake adult phase where we basically put on cheap makeup, carried baby “purses," and wore baby “heels" so that we could feel grown-up. Throw a feather or some tinsel in your hair and you might as well be back in 2011... ah, the good 'ole days. Here and here are two different lists of styles that together encaptured all the looks that ruled the 2010s.

4. Gossip.

Some juicy celebrity gossip and news went down during this decade. You seem to forget how long 10 years is until you realize Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes were getting arrested in the same decade that Taylor Swift fought with Kim and Kanye, the super controversial Blurred Lines VMA performance happened, Bruce turned Caitlin Jenner shocked the world, and Donald Trump became the third president to ever get impeached from office. Crazy stuff. Click here to see a full list of all the insane celebrity happenings from the 2010s.

5. Gadgets/Tech.

Let's talk about technology. The 2010s were a huge groundbreaking time for all forms of technology. This decade brought you the very first iPhone all the way up to the iPhone 11 (I think, honestly I can't keep up with all the new models), along with the smart-everything models ranging from TV's and watches to refrigerators and cars, and cool computers and gaming devices that may even include streaming services. Bye-bye cable! The 2010s also brought about the craze of making technology officially part of everyday life. The smartphone is the biggest offender as it's pocket-sized computer convenience bloomed into so much more “smart" gear. Now, school, most jobs, entertaining children, and even day-to-day chores are virtually impossible without the gadgets rolled out in the last decade. After 10 years, many people have a love/hate relationship with technology, but in my opinion, you can't live with it and you can't live without it as we exit the 2010s. Here is a list of 100 of the decade's most popular gadgets, devices, and technological advances.

As this decade comes to a close, I just wanted to say thank you to the 2010s and wish everyone success in the 2020s; because after this decade, who knows what's to come in the next 10 years!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
