Have you ever thought about what moments have made you feel whole? Did they give you goosebumps and make you tear up a little bit? I can't say I've had a lot of these "moments", but there is one in particular that was extremely special to me. It was even as simple as singing Carmen Ohio with my best friends after winning one of the biggest games of the year. It was truly an experience of a lifetime.
I woke up on that Saturday morning feeling extremely nervous about the day to come. I knew that the weather was supposed to be very chilly and it was even raining when I left my dorm room. I decided that I was going to put layers and layers of clothing on myself to make sure that I stayed for the entire game. I told myself that it was going to be a good day and it turned out that I was right.
When we first got to the stadium, we were given a towel that we could throw around while we were cheering. Although you may think that it wasn't that nice of a "free" gift, it played a major role in getting people fired up. Of course, we enjoyed The Best Damn Band In The Land and took plenty of pictures before the start of the game. But as soon as we knew it, it was kickoff. I'm going to be honest, having the opponent team get a touchdown on the first play of the game hurt a little bit. However, we were all in for a bumpy ride.
For the majority of the game, it wasn't looking like I was going to have one of those "moments" I was talking about earlier. Everyone was extremely cold, tired, and hungry. We needed something good to happen to us and we needed it fast. We finally got our wish, even if it was within the last seven minutes of the game. It was within the last seven minutes of the game that I realized there is no other place I would rather be. I was surrounded by more than 100,000 people who have faith in such a dedicated team. I truly felt like I was at home.
For the rest of my life, I will remember the moment I rushed to the field with some of my best friends. I was overwhelmed with feelings of joy, pride, love, excitement, and peace. Although I know that not everyone can have the same kind of "moment" that I did, I know that they can have these moments more than they think. They don't have to as big as mine, but can be something as simple as getting an A on a test you studied so long for. Surround yourself with people who will lead you to these moments, just as I have for myself. Trust me, you're going to want to have many more of these moments.
